More music video editing
Today is going to be very difficult and busy as we will be editing our music video. Our first task for today is to put our video clips that we've recorded in synch with the song we have chosen to create our video for this will take some time as we plan to reveal a lot of fast editing.
Wednesday, 7 December 2011
New task ahead
We did manage to finish editing out the bloopers the first time we worked on the project. Today we will be piecing together the parts that we planned to put together, this is the most difficult part of the editing as we will need to keep the lip syncing in sync. If the lip syncing isn't perfect then it will look awkward.

The music video footage
We have finally and successfully gathered all the footage we need from our first location where filmed. Today we will begin to edit the footage; our first task will be to decompose any mistakes within the footage this may take a while we gathered a lot of footage that contain many bloopers. If there I enough time spear we shall begin to construct the rest of the footage. As a whole we know we have a difficult task ahead and will time sometime to complete.
Here's a print screen of what we have

Using Final Cut
This is a print screen of Final Cut, this is where all our footage will be loaded onto so it can be edited. The top left of the print screen is where all the footage will be stored and it will allow us to place video images onto the the bottom part of the print screen where we can cut part of the video we don't want or onto the top middle of the print screen which will allows us to adjust and modify. The top right hand side of the print will allow us to preview our video in real time.

Unfortunate situation
Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to film the view we wanted on the first day of filming our music video because of personal issue that occurred before leaving to proceed our destination.
So today we will be sure of getting the footage we need and will be leaving shortly. Hopefully today will be successful so that we can begin editing as soon as possible.
We begin to film music video
Today we will be travelling to London by train from Dageham East Station to Temple in London. We Do have high hopes of doing all our filming in this one day but if not we will surely complete it the next day which is tomorrow. We hope to get to Temple at around 4pm just when sun is setting as this is the view we desire to capture. It will take us approximately 1 hour to reach the destination so we will leave around 2:30pm, we don't want to miss the view we want to film so we will leave half an hour earlier in case of transport delays.
Equipment needing for a successful day of filming are:
Oyster card
HD cam recorder
Tripod
costumes
Today we plan to film all of the singing within in the song we've chosen. As soon as all our filming is complete the sooner we can edit our footage we hope for the best.

Target audience research from wall wisher
I believe we have gathered enough target audience research from wallwisher.com now this procedure is done we can set to doing further development to ideas for our music video. We will over view all our research and take the information we conjured into consideration in order to reach our target audience and also the success of our music video.
You can see below all the comments posted on my wallwisher

costumes and props
we don't recommend using any props within our music video as we see there are no relevant props to be used. The costume is going to be very simple; smart trousers, smart shirt, jacket and a body warmer. Below are the images.

Audience research using survey monkey

We will be using survey monkey to create surveys that will help us generate our ideas for our music video. The survey that we will create will help us find our target audience. Once we've created the survey we will post it onto Facebook and leave some time for people to answer the questionnaire. Once we have gathered the information needed, I and my groupie will sit down and form a conclusion from the information we have received of how we are going to have out music video be like.

Focus group video
Focus groups are a very effective way of generating a large amount of authentic and revealing video footage. producing focus also provide that extra degree of reality and it can also save you from costs.
Above is our focus group, this was beneficial to us as it helped us to create plans from the answers we received.
Editing the focus group clip
We eventually filmed our focus group and now have completed the editing, the procedure was quite simple and quick to do as we have already had experience doing so last year. Again we used Final Cut Express to edit the focus group clip, Final Cut Express helped to edit out errors within the clip and rearrange editing.
target audience research
Today we planned to take out the HD cam recorder to film a focus group in order to gather critical information that would highly assist us with the development of our music video. We did a brief plan of how the focus group would be film. We wanted to randomly gather as many people possible that wouldn't mind being in the short production. We would have the video camera set up and would ask questions about the song that will be played to them, and also questions that were related to the genre of the song. We believe that this is a very effective way of gathering vital information as it will help assist with the production of our music video.
Audience research of favourite music videos and giving reasons why
Asking these questions below will help us effectively with the production for our music video as it will enable us to see what element people enjoy viewing with in a particular music video.
We asked ten candidates for their favourite music video and reasons why it is their favourite.
What is your favourite music video? What's your reason/s?
1 Drake ft Rihanna Take Care
2 Nicki Minaj ft Rihanna Fly

4 Michael Jackson thriller
5 Nelly and Kelly Dilemma

Creating questionnaire
We've just created a survey questionnaire on the website surveymonkey.com. We asked the "what is your favourite music video genre?" This will help us with the type of audience we will be looking for when producing our music video and allow it to be the best it can be. We are kind of worried that we wont get as much response for our questionnaire as we want, if this does occur we will just do with the information gathered.

Focus group
We have film a focus group to gather information about the song we are using for our music video, we managed to gather a lot of positive information, this has made us feel and think more positively. The answers that we collected from the questions we ask allow us to construct some creative plans for our music video.
We asked these question:
What do you think of when listening to the song?
what other artists does the song remind you of?
give three work to describe the song?

Today in lesson we looked at possible pictures we could use to put on our Digi pak so we sat down and looked at our Music video to see what image would complement the video very well and go with the Digi pak. We have decided that these are the images that could possibly go on our Digi Pak because we believe that it would suit the Music Video very well and therefore it will improve the overall presentation of the Digi pak.
key music video conventions
When creating our music video we need to carefully consider our song choice and location we will be using. We have chosen a song which is RandB/hiphop so we decided to want to create a video where there are many colourful lights and where the area is clean and sophisticated. Well below is a wordle revealing most conventions that will be included within our music video.

Possible locations for music video

Here are places where we want to do our filming for our music video which is in London. we've chosen these areas because of the lights and the buildings around. We want our music video showing clean sophisticated buildings and different coloured bright lighting as you can see in the images above. we are hoping that when we arrive at these locations it is not packed with people as this would make things difficult for us.
What we should include on our digipak
We must include;
SIX PANELS
BAR CODE
TRACK LIST
DISK IMPRESSION
SPINE WITH ARTIST AND ALBUM'S NAME

Digipak from past students work

In lesson we viewed different digipaks from past student work and from actual artist this will help us with our planning for our own. The digipak above is has been constructed by a past student, the digipak seems as if a lot time and effort that been put into it. The digipak is packed with bright colours which gives is a joyful feel when viewed. At the top left of the digipak the image in this section is hand drawn with the names of girls who are in the band this is very effective and show creativity. Their music video highly relates to the digipak as they are both bright with colour and joyful to view. The editing is very quick which matches to the type of song they're using, the quick editing will help keep the interest of the spectator.

The Digipak and advert here above show many relations through colour, font and imagery. Although it is simple it still shows effectiveness as it gives of a sense of freedom and relaxation which I believe this is what the designer wanted to create.

what is a digipak?
A digipak is simply a gate fold, paper-board or card that stock outer binding, with plastic trays which can hold a CD or DVD that is fitted onto plastic tray which then can be closed up.
Example of album cover
Here is an example of an album cover, which is T.I's who is an american Hiphop rapper. The cover may look very simple but I still believe that it is highly effective. The album cover reveals T.I's face, the image of his face seems to be

Our music that we use for our final product must not be copyright music. Copyright is something that protects an authors work whether it is a musical, dramatic, artistic etc. Copyright will only have protection over ideas that have been elaborated, in other words ideas that have been put into action.
We must be careful when we begin to search for the music we would like to use, if we see this copyright sign then that music cannot be used. This is the reason why we must ask the owners permission to use there work.

My favourite music video
This here is my favourite music video of all time, this is mainly because of the dance moves and the lighting and colour in the video. I also love the fact that the video is a tribute to Michael Jackson and the costumes in the video relate back to Michael. When I view this video it makes me fill up with excitement and makes me want get up and dance.
Information on Drake
Drake sooner than later lyrics
Below are the lyrics to the song we will be using for our music video. The lyrics are highly relevant because we will them to learn the song in order for us to do the lip synchronizing.
I forgot to call you on your birthday
You swear you the last thing on my mind
There is nothing I can do to fix it
All you ever asked me for was time
When our lives don’t go the same way that they used to
And I finally get a moment to myself
I will realize you were everything I’m missin
And you’ll tell me you’re in love with someone else
So can you do me a favor?
If I pull it together
Make it sooner than later
We wont be here for ever
And ill realize I waited too long
But please don’t move on
You don’t need no one else
You don’t need no one else
You don’t need no one else
You don’t need no one else
You don’t need no one else
You just changed your hair and it looks perfect
Wish I was the first to let you know
Every chance I get to make it better
I just find a way to let it go
When our lives don’t go the same way that they used to
And I finally get a moment to myself

If im never on your mind
Nights fallin

And im just tryin ta pay the price on
And I don’t wanna feel the comfort from my ice showin
And I aint tryin ta be with out you at the right moment
Nigga nights gone is it worth it?
That decision cuz hearts break in
I aint tryin ta be in that collision
So im dust my shirt
And fix my pants cuz I better look good girl if this my chance I swear

final song choice
I and my partner have been looking for a suitable song for our music video over the past 2 weeks. We've realised that we are taking too long to do so, so we have concluded to have our first song choice used. Our song choice is Sooner Than Later by Drake.

songs choices
Here are two of our song choices that we maybe using for our music video, but first we must e-mail the creator of the songs. We must do so to get comfirmation that we are able to use the music for our production of a music video. In the meanwhile of waiting for the positive feedback we will begin our planning of how we are going do our music video.

aspects that should be accounted in our music video
The factors that will need to be taken into consideration when planning a video are:
The location
Actors
Weather
Sound and Lighting
Costume
Hair and make up
Mise en scene
The positioning of characters and objects in a frame
If we want our music video to be successful we must include all of these aspects.

Case study- Jamie thraves

Jamie thraves created short films while he was at university. He used award- winning short films as a 'calling card' to get a 'foot in the door' with the video company factory films. After he started to shoot very low budget music videos which cost about 5000 pounds.
Heres the proccess of it all:
.A commissioner from a record label sends a track to 5-10 directors
.The directors then submit a treatment, there is no payments at this stage
.The director who has submitted the best treatment is then commissioned to produce the video, from here the director is paid
Here is one of Jamie Thraves latest music video 'Japanese Popstars song for Lisa. The video cost about 20,000 pounds, it took two days to be shot. Jamie has used the music video to get into the film business.
Radio Head- Just had a budget of 100,000 pounds and was shot in three days.
Cold play- The Scientist had a budget of 200,000 pounds adn was shot in three days. The song was written by all members of the group. The video consists of reverse narrative, inorder for this to be done, Martin had to learn to sing the song backwards.
what I learn from the preliminary task
The preliminary that i and my group member this allowed us to discover the key aspects of creating a music video. This have helped us feel more confident towards the process of producing our actual music video. The preliminary task has made us discover actually how difficult it would be to create a actual music video. The task has also helped us develop skills such as getting lip synching in perfect place, this will be advantageous for us in the future when we coming to editing our actual music video.

Finding our song for our final product
Preliminary
We were asked to do a preliminary task in our groups to grasp the aspects of how to create a music video. We were given a song to use in our task. The song that we were given for the task was 'Don't go breaking my heart' by Elton John and Kiki D.
I and my partner firstly attempted to learn the words of the song, but we saw that it was too difficult as we both had no clue of the song. Even when we had the words on the projector and tried do a karaoki it was still proven difficult. We finally gave up after a numerous attempts and got two members of another group to take over.
We had to film three parts of footage with a HD cam recorder, which all included different situations, one where i am dancing, another where my partner is dancing and lasty the part where there is lip sinking.
Once we collected the footage we uploaded it onto the imac. we then had the song bluetooth over to the imac we were on.
First of all we had to get the edit of the lip sinking perfect and on point inorder for us to begin cutting and editing parts in and out. We then added some effects to have the video look more interesting. Hopfully this procedure of the preliminary task we help us with the final product.
Well here it is. Enjoy!

The purpose of a video and how do we know it is successful
A music video is a short film which is mixed up with a song and imagery. The purpose of a music video would be to give the lyrics of the song an interpretation, to express the song only the audience to see clearly what the song is about and to also add meaning. A music video is also used to promote the song so it can forward itself to a larger audience; it’s also used to promote the artist. A music video will express and individual's emotion; these emotions could show anger, sadness or happiness.
A music video can be judged to be successful by the TV channel it is on, the sales increase, the increase of the downloads, the number of views the video has from Youtube, the amount of times the music video is shown on TV, CD sales and the charts. all of these aspects will determine the Popularity of the video and probrably the sale figures.
